Ok,

So you have taken the time to develop your network through friends, family, and business associates. Through your whole array of social profiles, you have found a way to attach yourself and your stream of thought through an intricately developed web. This will ensure that everyone knows what you are doing, how your business is developing, what your thoughts are on clients, how the weather is, and so on.

How can you separate your personal networking from your professional? This is a hard line to walk. As your company news may be exciting to you and your associates. This does not necessarily mean that your cousins care. It also means that if you become annoying, they are more likely to hide your info feed and completely forget about you. Making that connection completely worthless, both socially and professionally.

There is a fine line between posting relevant information and just being a nuisance. Though it may not seem like you need to worry about annoying people, because all you really want to do is get the information out there, for search engine optimization, professional reasons…. Well guess what? Having all of these great blogs posted on your Facebook profile can be beneficial, but only if you havent bugged everyone to the point where they hide you.

Diversify. This is my greatest tool in posting relevant information about my business, as well as fun info to engage my friends and family. Though your second cousin may not seem like the most necessary connection, small businesses need to value every single click. This means that providing a diverse amount of media will keep you from being deleted and may also give you the chance to connect with your second cousins uncle who also is a business owner and may need your services.

Have multiple blogs. Blogs are an important tool. Through multiple blogging platforms, you can separate your professional news and updates from your personal ones. This will also provide you with a chance to speak your mind, without posting every thought directly to your Facebook or Myspace updates.

Why is social media a necessary platform of advertising for small business? Twitter, Facebook, and Myspace all seem to be a random mess of information, extremely time consuming, with the wrong age demographic. Why and how does this apply to my small business?

Many times social media platforms are over looked by small businesses because it seems like the audience that would be reached is outside of the local area. If this is the case, it seems like a waste of time to invest in social media that will reach users in other states or even countries.

This is not the case. With the latest developments in location based applications, your social media campaign is now more localized than ever before. You have an opportunity to advertise directly to your local clientele. You can now offer new deals and specials to customers who will recognize your company and invest time at your store, or even connecting with you on other social networks.
